Where: Edison Square, 5415 South Tacoma Way, Tacoma, WA 98409 Guest Speakers: Senator Yasmin Trudeau Representative Sharlett Mena Chelsea McElroy, Tacoma School District Board Voter turnout in 2023 in WA was the lowest in state history, with Pierce County in the bottom 10 counties. Since the establishment of Pierce County, only three people of color have ever been elected to the county council. Something needs to be done. Join elected leaders, activists, and policy makers from around Pierce County as we take an analytical deep dive into our antiquated electoral system. Does it serve the interests of a multi-racial democracy? How can we do better? There is too much at stake in 2024 to not boldly envision better and more equitable voting systems. This event will include the release of a new video produced by WA for Equitable Representation, a review of the Electoral Justice Dashboard Pierce County, and a fun activity to learn more about electoral systems.
