Upcoming Democracy Events & Actions!

Thursday, August 15th at 5 pm PT/8 pm ET

Project 2025: Presidential Transition Project is a 900-page document published by the Heritage Foundation which outlines the far-right’s extremist policy proposals for the upcoming presidential administration. Not only does Project 2025 encompass policy proposals that would further disenfranchise communities of color, the LGBTQ+ community, immigrants, and working class folks, but one of the main goal of this handbook is to undermine the checks and balances ingrained within the American political system to degrade democratic processes.

Join us for a special training for activists on August 15th, which will consist of a virtual movement briefing to learn about and organize against the numerous threats that the Project 2025 mandate poses to our democratic processes.

We’ll be joined by policy and communications experts from the Center for American Progress, the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, the Declaration for American Democracy and Not Above the Law Coalitions, and Navigator Research. This is an opportunity for activists to become stronger advocates in realizing the promise of our democracy.

UPCOMING Training for Civic Education Advocacy!
Thursday, August 22nd @ 4 pm PT/7 pm ET
OPEN TO ALL!

Ready to make a case for civic learning to your school board?? Learn how to make change for your students and your community through your school board.

Join us as our expert presenters share how to emphasize your work within your local school boards on August 22nd at 4 pm PT/7 pm ET. Presenters will discuss dos and don’ts in making your best case in ways that make a difference for yourself, your peers, your student, community, and democracy. Our presenter will be Jessica Ellison, the Executive Director of the National Council for History Education (NCHE). Beyond Jessica and NCHE's leadership in the field, she is an experienced school board member. Jessica was first elected to her local school board in 2017. She served during the Covid-19 pandemic and won re-election in 2021. She is currently in her third year as Board Chair. Jessica's district is in the northeast suburbs of the Twin Cities and has a current enrollment of about 8,700 students.

Fix Democracy First is a proud partner of the CivXNow Teachers Advancing Civic Learning (TACL) project, an effort to build an ongoing movement and advance policy within schools, districts, states, and nation. We especially encourage current and retired educators interested in being part of this peer community to join the TACL effort

This event is open to anyone interested in learning more about advocating for civic education on the local, state and/or national level.
